Live Webcam With Sound - Bognor Regis Pier
The webcam you see the live images from, is situated on the pier at Bognor Regis (UK). It is with great thanks to the owners of Bognor Regis Pier to allow this camera to be installed.
It all started with an idea though in 2009
Back in 2009 having looked on the internet for information about Bognor Regis, it seemed that a lot more could included especially about some of Bognor's biggest assets; the beaches of Bognor Regis. So this website, Bognor Regis Beach was born.
One thing that was also lacking was a webcam to show the world what a great beach Bognor Regis has. Most of the beaches at Bognor Regis are family friendly and are easily accessible with parking for most areas right next to the beach.
In June 2012, this webcam was first setup, not only to help towards promoting tourism for Bognor Regis, but also for local business to get involved by being able to promote what they do. Any local business can advertise with us.
The camera that is producing the live view is an Earthcam Camera. The camera produces a 24/7 live internet streaming image.
The camera has its own wiper along with a heating/demisting element for those damp rainy days and also an internal fan for when the sun is shining (which happens quite a lot in Bognor Regis). The camera is in a static position in that it has a fixed view, although it is zoomed into to show a closer image of the beach from time to time. Also at times throughout the year, the camera maybe repositioned depending on the view and what events are taking place.
We hope you enjoy the live webcam view. Please do view regularly to see changes or to just enjoy the sound of the sea. - Happy viewing, Colin Clark, founder of BognorRegisBeach.co.uk
Frequently asked question
Can the camera be turned round to face the other way ?
Answer - Sorry ... No.
The camera is fixed, installed on the East tower of the pier and is static. The reason this position was chosen (and it took a lot of thought) were due to the following reasons:
1. All of the prevailing weather comes form the West in Bognor Regis. During winter storms, the camera despite being protected somewhat by the rest of the pier structure was frequently covered in sea/salt spray. Even though it has a wiper, we found it difficult to keep the front glass clean. If it was on the other side, this effect would have been considerably worse and viewing would be severely compromised.
2. The West tower (facing West), houses air conditioning fans which are very noisy. This noise would drown out the sounds of the sea and seagulls.
3. It was felt that overall throughout the year, that the East view was better.
4. It was far more convenient to locate the camera where it currently is due to power and internet connection.
Although the camera in its current location can be swung round to view the West, due to the position/location of the camera on the Pier and the camera field of view, if it were to be turned round the view would be mostly of the pier structure and nothing of the sea. We have also had a few enquiries about placing another camera facing West. Due to the cost of the setup and the above points, this at present is not possible.
